  1. 1Day 1Welcome to Alaska!Overnight: Anchorage
    • Anchorage is Calling

Welcome to Alaska! The adventure kicks off in Anchorage, where we'll gather for our welcome meeting and a rundown of the days ahea. We'll stretch our legs on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, one of the most scenic urban walks in the US, with sweeping views over Cook Inlet, and, if we're lucky, a moose cameo. Later, we'll stock up for the road ahead and share our first dinner together as a group. Anchorage is our launchpad into pure wilderness.

      • A wooden 'Welcome to Alaska' sign stands on a gravel patch overlooking a winding mountain road and hazy peaks.
  2. 2Day 2Hatcher Pass & TalkeetnaOvernight: Talkeetna
    • Into the Mountains

Today we leave the city behind and hit the road. The drive to Hatcher Pass is a moving postcard: rolling alpine meadows, rugged ridgelines, and glacial valleys stretching as far as the eye can see. We may stop at Independence Mine State Historical Park, a fascinating gold-rush relic tucked high in the Talkeetna Mountains.

From there, we'll hit the trail: choose between Gold Mint or Reed Lakes, both winding past turquoise pools and snowfields in near-total silence. By afternoon we'll roll into Talkeetna, a quirky frontier village of colourful shops and riverside breweries, with Denali looming on the horizon, the perfect spot to unwind.

      • Four small red A-frame cabins are scattered on a grassy hillside at the base of a large, snow-capped mountain under a cloudy sky.
  3. 3Day 3Flightseeing & Horseshoe Lake TrailOvernight: Denali
    • Denali National Park

For the adventurous, the day starts with a flightseeing tour over Denali, glacier landing included! Soaring above North America's tallest peak, the scale of the Alaskan wilderness will leave you speechless: jagged spires, endless icefields, and crevasses glowing deep blue in the sun.

Back on solid ground, we'll continue toward Denali National Park to walk the Horseshoe Lake Trail, a gentle route through spruce forest that often reveals moose grazing at the water's edge. In the afternoon, we'll stop by the Denali Visitor Center to learn about the park's wildlife and geology and maybe catch a ranger-led talk from the experts who call this place home.

      • A red propeller plane fitted with skis is parked on a snowy glacier, with a rugged mountain range in the background.
  4. 4Day 4Denali Trails and Glacier ViewOvernight: Glacier View
    • Denali Classics

This morning we'll take on one of Denali's classic trails: the challenging Mt. Healy Overlook, with sweeping valley views, or the equally spectacular Savage Alpine Trail, cutting deep into tundra country. Either way, it's a chance to feel Alaska's wilderness underfoot.

    • Glacier View

Back on the road, we'll head south toward Glacier View, passing jaw-dropping scenery of braided rivers and mountain ranges (keep an eye out for roadside moose). Before settling in for the night, we'll catch our first glimpse of the mighty Matanuska Glacier, a ribbon of ancient ice winding through the valley, and rest up for tomorrow's icy adventure.

      • A snow-capped mountain range and a green treeline are perfectly reflected in the calm waters of a lake under a blue sky.
  5. 5Day 5Glacier Ice Walks and Roadside WondersOvernight: Valdez
    • Matanuska Glacier Ice Walk

Time to walk on ice, literally. Today we'll gear up for a guided Matanuska Glacier ice walk, weaving through blue crevasses and glittering towers of ice while our guides share stories of Alaska's ever-changing glaciers.

    • Wrangell-St. Elias, Thompson Pass and Valdez

After lunch, we'll head east through wild, open country, stopping for views over Wrangell-St. Elias, one of the largest national parks on Earth. The drive continues through Thompson Pass, one of Alaska's most scenic stretches of road, with waterfalls tumbling down either side of the valley. By evening, we'll arrive in Valdez, a peaceful harbour town framed by snow-capped peaks, and one of Alaska's best-kept secrets.

      • A person in a blue jacket and red hat stands inside a glowing blue ice cave, looking towards the bright entrance.
  6. 6Day 6Valdez AdventuresOvernight: Valdez
    • Exploring Valdez & Worthington Glacier

Today is all about exploring the magic of Valdez and its surroundings. We’ll start with a visit to Worthington Glacier, where a short trail brings us face to face with the ice. Then drive through the dramatic Keystone Canyon, famous for its waterfalls, Bridal Veil and Horsetail Falls, which crash down right beside the road.

    • Kayaking in Prince William Sound

In the afternoon, we'll join a sea kayaking trip in Prince William Sound, paddling among floating ice and curious seals, with amazing views and wildflowers galore. In the evening, we’ll relax along the harbor, grab seafood straight off the boat, and toast to another day well lived.

      • First-person view from a yellow kayak as a WeRoad group trip paddles on blue water towards a massive glacier wall under a clear sky.
  7. 7Day 7Byron Glacier & SewardOvernight: Seward
    • The Long Drive South

A big day on the road, but what a drive. We'll leave Valdez early and retrace our path to the coast, stopping at the Byron Glacier Trail, an easy but unmissable walk through lush forest to a glacier viewpoint. Along Turnagain Arm, we'll watch for beluga whales and Dall sheep clinging to the cliffs, with optional stops at Beluga Point, Bird Point, or the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, home to rescued bears, moose, and bison. By evening, we'll roll into Seward, a picturesque harbour town on the Kenai Peninsula, ready for a well-earned dinner.

      • A harbor full of docked sailboats and motorboats with a backdrop of snow-capped mountains under a cloudy sky.
  8. 8Day 8Kenai Fjords, Wildlife & TrailsOvernight: Seward
    • Boat Tour in Kenai Fjords

Welcome to marine paradise. Today's highlight is the Kenai Fjords boat tour, a full-day journey through one of Alaska's most spectacular national parks. Keep your camera charged: we're talking whales, puffins, otters, sea lions, and glaciers calving thunderously into the sea.

    • Trails in Kenai Mountains

Back on land, stretch your legs at Exit Glacier with an easy walk to a viewpoint, or take on the steep but breathtaking Harding Icefield Trail for sweeping views over the icefield that feeds every glacier below. A big day of natural wonder, and quite possibly the moment you'll remember most.

      • Three sea otters float on their backs together in the light blue, rippling water.
  9. 9Day 9Homer & Kachemak BayOvernight: Homer
    • To the End of the Road

We'll leave Seward behind and cruise the Sterling Highway, one of Alaska's most scenic drives, all the way to Homer, the end of the road and gateway to Kachemak Bay. Once there, we'll explore the legendary Homer Spit, a long stretch of land reaching into the bay lined with shops, cafés, and fishing boats. We'll walk Bishop's Beach, browse local art galleries, and pop into the quirky Salty Dawg Saloon, plastered floor to ceiling in dollar bills left by travellers from around the world.

      • A wet road runs alongside a calm body of water, leading towards snow-capped mountains under a pastel twilight sky.
  10. 10Day 10Homer WondersOvernight: Homer
    • Choosing Adventures

Today is all about choice. Feeling bold? Join a bear-viewing flight to Katmai or Lake Clark for a rare chance to see grizzlies fishing for salmon in the wild. Prefer the sea? Try kayaking in Kachemak Bay, spend a day halibut fishing, or hop on a water taxi to Halibut Cove, a tiny art community tucked among cliffs and sea caves. Want to slow down instead? Visit the Pratt Museum, browse local galleries, or simply relax by the water with a cup of Alaskan coffee. However we spend it, it's our last full day in the wild — let's make it count.

      • Three brown bears walk in a single file line along the rocky edge of a waterfall in a river.
  11. 11Day 11Girdwood & Last StretchOvernight: Anchorage
    • Road Back through Girdwood & Potter Marsh

Time to say goodbye to Homer, but Alaska isn't done with us yet. We'll hit the road early for the return to Anchorage, soaking up more breathtaking views along Turnagain Arm. We'll stretch our legs in Girdwood, a charming mountain town, and Potter Marsh, a birdwatcher's paradise. Back in Anchorage, there'll be time for last-minute souvenirs before we gather one final time for a farewell dinner, the perfect send-off to relive our favourite memories.

      • A straight paved road stretches through a dense evergreen forest towards a large, snow-covered mountain range under a partly cloudy sky.
  12. 12Day 12Farewell, Alaska
    • Goodbyes

Our Alaskan adventure comes to an end. We'll say goodbye (for now) to our fellow WeRoaders and the land that stole our hearts along the way. As we part ways, one thing's for certain: the friendships, laughter, and memories will outlast the flight home.
