Itinerary
1Day 1Welcome to Tunis
Welcome to Tunis
We'll land at Tunis-Carthage Airport. After grabbing our luggage and dropping our backpacks at the hotel, we'll meet up, ready for our first dive into the vibrant Tunisian atmosphere.
We'll start with a visit to the Bardo Museum, a treasure trove of history and art, proudly housing one of the world's richest collections of Roman mosaics. Get ready to travel back in time through halls adorned with these ancient artworks, precious testaments to a glorious past.
After soaking in the masterpieces at the Bardo, we'll take a stroll through the Medina of Tunis, the city's beating heart. This UNESCO World Heritage labyrinth of alleys will enchant us with its colours, scents, and the lively buzz of its souks. Here, we can browse artisan shops, admire the grandeur of the Zitouna Mosque, and immerse ourselves in an atmosphere from another era.
Welcome Dinner
In the evening, we'll have an authentic culinary experience - a traditional Tunisian dinner. We try intense flavours and enveloping aromas, trying local specialties like couscous, brik (a sort of stuffed fried pastry) or lablabi (a chickpea soup).
This first day will give us a taste of the cultural and historical richness of Tunis, conveying the charm of a city that harmoniously blends the ancient and the modern.
2Day 2From Carthage to Sidi Bou Said
Exploring historical Tunisia
Our second day in Tunis will be an immersion into the history and beauty of the city's surroundings. After a traditional breakfast, we'll hop in a taxi or bus to reach Carthage, the ancient rival of Rome.
We'll be standing before the remains of a millennia-old civilisation, founded by the Phoenicians and destroyed by the Romans. We'll wander among the ruins of the Tophet, the ancient sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Tanit.
Its millennia-old history, marked by splendour and destruction, remains palpable among the ruins that today rise majestically on the promontory overlooking the Gulf of Tunis.
We'll continue to the Baths of Antoninus, one of the largest thermal complexes in Roman Africa. Here, we can imagine the luxurious life of the ancient Romans, who gathered in these places to socialise, exercise, and enjoy the benefits of the thermal waters. Finally, we'll head to the Magone Quarter for a dive into daily life.
Arabian Lunch & Sidi Bou Said
After exploring the wonders of Carthage, our afternoon will be dedicated to discovering another gem of Tunisia: Sidi Bou Said, a picturesque village just a few kilometres from Carthage.
Sidi Bou Said is famous for its distinctive white houses with blue doors and windows, creating a magical and enchanting atmosphere. We'll wander through its narrow streets, admiring the blooming bougainvillea and soaking in the breathtaking sea views.
We'll have time to unwind in one of the traditional cafes, sipping mint tea and tasting local sweets. We can also visit the Ennejma Ezzahra Palace, an old residence turned museum, showcasing a collection of traditional musical instruments.
In the late afternoon, we'll head back to Tunis, our hearts full of unforgettable memories and eager to discover even more of this fascinating country with a tour of the Medina.
3Day 3The charm of Hammamet
The charm of Hammamet
After reaching Hammamet by public transport, we'll find ourselves catapulted into its picturesque Medina, a labyrinth of streets buzzing with artisan workshops and souvenir shops.
A visit to the Kasbah, the ancient fortress overlooking the city, will offer a breathtaking view of the sea and the entire Medina. We'll also have the chance to soak up the sun and relax on the beautiful fine sandy beaches that characterise Hammamet.
Alternatively, during our free time, we can explore the city, perhaps visiting the International Cultural Centre or indulging in some shopping.
Lunch will be at a typical local restaurant, with the opportunity to taste local specialties in one of the many seaside eateries. Here we can toast to a wonderful weekend full of new experiences and new friendships.
