Your Day-by-Day Adventure

Here's what your two days of hiking and caving in Stoos and Muotathal look like.

Day 1

Klingenstock + Fronalpstock

Begin your adventure at Schwyz station at 10:00. Take the 10:20 Bus 501 to the Stoosbahn valley station, then ride the world's steepest funicular up to the car-free Stoos village (pax buys the Stoosbahn Peak Experience ticket individually with their Halbtax). Coffee or early lunch in the village, then from ~12:00 embark on the demanding hike up Klingenstock on foot (~2h, +600m — the chairlift is closed until 13 June). From ~14:00 the spectacular ridge traverse to Fronalpstock (4h), with panoramic views of ten Swiss lakes on a clear day. 17:30 hotel check-in at Stoos Lodge, then 19:30 group dinner at a reserved village restaurant (you pay your own bill).

Day 2

Hölloch cave

Enjoy breakfast at Stoos Lodge from 07:30, check out and store your luggage. Take the 09:00 funicular down to the valley, then 09:55 Bus B501 to the Hölloch Center in Muotathal. From 10:15 to 13:15 dive into the Hölloch Beginner Tour, a three-hour underground journey through Europe's longest explored cave system. Helmet, headlamp, rubber boots, caving gloves and a certificate are all provided. 13:15 lunch at the Hölloch Center or back in Stoos valley (you pay your own bill). 14:30 bus back to Schwyz, train home by late afternoon.
